Beginner crash course

Python for Scientific Research

Read an invented measurements CSV; report sample sizes, means and sample standard deviations by experimental group.

$12 USD · planned one-time launch priceLaunch in preparation · not yet on sale

What you’ll learn to build

  • CSV rows become dictionaries
  • Convert text to numbers
  • For loops process repetitions
  • Collect data using a defaultdict
  • Functions clarify responsibilities

Who it’s for

No previous programming experience. A computer where you can install Python and run a terminal.

Two focused lessons

  1. 01

    Python fundamentals for lab data

  2. 02

Validate statistics and extend your lab workflow

Your library roadmap

The starter project uses Python’s standard library. Other tools below are future-study topics, not prerequisites.

  • csv — read structured experimental tables
  • statistics — calculate mean, standard deviation and other summaries
  • math — check numeric finiteness and mathematical operations
  • NumPy — vectorized numeric arrays
  • SciPy — statistical and numerical methods beyond this project
  • Matplotlib — plot experimental data

Project boundaries

Synthetic repeat measurements only. Mean and standard deviation are descriptive; they do not validate instruments, prove significance, establish causality, address missing data or replace research protocols. Do not overinterpret very small samples.
