  • Types, integers and Decimal money
  • Multiple inputs without rewriting your script
  • Functions solve one problem at a time
  • Read a Python function call

Who it’s for

No previous programming experience. A computer where you can install Python and run a terminal.

Two focused lessons

  1. 01

    Python foundations through mortgage inputs

  2. 02

Build the calculator and test its assumptions

Your library roadmap

The starter project uses Python’s standard library. Other tools below are future-study topics, not prerequisites.

  • decimal — exact base-ten money calculations
  • argparse — reusable command-line input flags
  • csv — exporting rows of amortization data
  • pandas — next step for financial tables and analysis
  • NumPy — next step for arrays and numerical scenarios

Project boundaries

This is an educational model, not a lender quotation, legal or financial advice. It assumes a constant rate over the amortization and excludes taxes, insurance, origination costs, variable-rate changes and lender-specific rules. Canadian-style semiannual nominal conversion is a selectable educational option, not a guarantee of any particular contract.
