What you’ll learn to build
- Represent units with variables
- Numbers, imports and arithmetic
- Create your first function
- Use arguments instead of hard-coding
- Validate before using equations
Who it’s for
No previous programming experience. A computer where you can install Python and run a terminal.
Two focused lessons
- 01
Learn Python through physical quantities
- 02
Calculate, explain and extend the model
Your library roadmap
The starter project uses Python’s standard library. Other tools below are future-study topics, not prerequisites.
- math — standard-library mathematical functions and numeric validation
- NumPy — numerical arrays and linear algebra
- SciPy — optimization, integration, interpolation and numerical methods
- Matplotlib — engineering plots and graphs
Project boundaries
Ideal textbook beam model only: constant rectangular cross-section, linear elastic bending, ideal point end load, small deflection. Ignores buckling, yield limits, shear deflection, fatigue, stress concentrations, supports and codes. Not for equipment design or structural safety decisions.
